“Constellation No. 4 (for mobile device and headphones)” explores non-linear, immersive, and interactive music by utilizing the listener’s movement in space to change and manipulate the music they hear. Listeners can log in to the web app using their mobile device and headphones to navigate through the music, evolving the piece with their movements and becoming part of the composition.

This composition is a venn diagram of 4 different audio channels placed in space, overlapping each other. The listener then moves between the different channels and creates their own unique musical experience which is completely different from the experience of other listeners.

The core value of this project lies in the liberation and democratization of art and knowledge. It represents the “Death of the Composer”—the listener is no longer bound by the composer’s intention and instead becomes an agent, creating a unique experience. The composition tells a story, but the listener decides which aspect of the story they wish to explore at any given moment.

The Witchy Woo is a wireless, bluetooth based MIDI controller in the form of a witch’s scepter, capable of transforming movement into MIDI notes and controls. It is meant to set the performer free from the usual table controllers and allow them to move freely, dance and express themselves in new ways. The Witchy Woo has a button in the bottom, allowing the performer to tap it dramatically and send either a MIDI note or a momentary control change, as well as a sensor that detects orientation in 3 axes, sending 3 MIDI continuous commands constantly. These make The Witchy Woo a versatile instrument that can be adjusted in many ways to create different experiences on stage.

“Autotune for Drummers” is a drum stick capable of correcting drummers as they play and “quantizing” their live drum hits to the beat. This 3D printed drum stick conceals sensors that allow it to do the impossible and correct the drummer even if they’re late by sending a MIDI note that snaps to the nearest 16th note. This allows the drummer freedom and flexibility while still keeping them perfectly synced to the beat.
